Haircare Favourites | Summer 2015.

As I mentioned in my last hair post, I've recently had my hair cut, and I've been trying a lot of new products to attempt to make the most of my natural hair.

The most important thing when it comes to haircare in my opinion, is getting the shampoo and conditioner that is right for your hair type. Obviously you have to consider what you're looking to achieve, but if you use a volumising shampoo that's designed for thick hair and yours is fine, it's going to weigh it down and have the opposite effect.

Toni and Guy have a great range of shampoos and conditioners for different hair types, and you only need a tiny bit of product each time so they last for ages too. I also think it's really important to use a deep conditioner regularly, especially if you dye your hair or use heated appliances on it. I've been using different variations of the Aussie three minute miracle for almost ten years now, and if you use it weekly you'll really see a difference in the condition and appearance of your hair. I usually leave it on for around ten/fifteen minutes, but if you don't have the time your hair still feels soft and bouncy after just three minutes.

As you'll probably know, I'm a big Aussie fan and regularly use another three of their products for conditioning. The Dual Personality conditioning milk smooths the ends of your hair and locks in moisture to keep it looking shiny and healthy - I use it on wet hair and work it through the end two thirds of my hair every time I wash it. Miracle Recharge is a great leave in conditioning spray that you can use on wet or dry hair. If your hair is prone to tangles and is more dry than oily this would be perfect for you as it just makes your hair look and feel softer without feeling heavy. Like with all of the Aussie products they have lots of different versions of the spray to suit your hair type, and I use the Luscious Long. Because my hair has a natural wave and curl to it, I use serum every day to tame the ends and minimise any frizz, especially as the weather starts to become hot and humid in the summer! The Aussie dual personality serum can also be used on wet or dry hair and although the bottle is small it lasts forever - I use it every day and each bottle lasts about a year. I find that it works really well with the spray conditioner to give my hair a soft, smooth, polished look without weighing my hair down or looking like I've got lots of product on.

While having well conditioned, healthy looking hair is my number one priority, I also like to use a couple of products to try and create a bit of volume, as although my hair is fine, I have a lot of it so it easily becomes quite flat and weighed down.
If you blow-dry your hair, the Tigi thickening spray has the same effect as mouse, but it's better on fine hair like mine as it doesn't feel heavy or greasy. Once your hair is dry the VO5 dry backcombing spray works like dry shampoo in the volume and lift that it creates, but without the white residue (perfect for darker hair!) and without the oil absorption. If you do backcomb your hair it lasts much longer, but doesn't leave it feeling hard in the same way that using hairspray does. For through the lengths of my hair I use one of two products depending on the look that I want - the Aussie beach waves spray creates a tousled, beachy look that's perfect for second day hair, especially for summer, and the Toni and Guy 3D Volumiser has a softer, more natural finish for everyday volume and hold.

*Quick disclaimer*

I don't use all of these products daily, just two or three depending on what I'm doing with my hair.
