Although it now seems a lifetime away, these pictures of my summer holiday to Tavira, Portugal are far too beautiful not to share. My family and I were lucky enough to blag a last minute deal, and after thinking we wouldn't be travelling abroad during summer, we booked the trip just over a week before we flew out. None of us had every visited Portugal before, and we were very surprised at how different it is to mainland Spain! Tavira is around a 20 minute drive from the airport, and while the bigger resorts are still very much within travelling distance, Tavira itself is completely unspoiled and lacks that commercial 'touristy' feel that you often get in Spain.
For the most part, I'm going to let the pictures do the talking; these first few were taken on the island of Tavria, just a 15 minute ferry ride from the town centre, and it's definitely the most beautiful beach I've ever been on!

Tavira town centre was every bit as stunning as the island, and it came alive on a nighttime as the streets were lined with traditional Portuguese market stalls selling everything from cakes to paperweights.
We stayed in the Vila Gale hotel, and while the room was a little basic, the breakfasts were amazing, and the location was perfect - ten minutes walk from the most amazing restaurants and the ferry port to the beach.
We tried to sample as much of the local cuisine as possible, but this little taverna along the water was our favourite. As someone who's not a fan of seafood, I was absolutely blown away with their shrimp kebabs, and my Dad was very impressed with his fillet steak, cooked on a hot stone.
Thanks for reading,
Tilly.

What a wonderful trip. Looks like loads of fun. I'm glad you and your family had fun.
